In 1958, Don Rummel founded Rummel's, a small printing and mimeo equipment and supply company to service local North Bay businesses. (The birth of Discovery Office Systems) Nine years later in 1967, Michael Moore begins his career for Rummel's as a sales professional. One short year later, in 1968, Rummel's name is changed to AB Dick Products and is now owned by Gary Kegerris. Mr. Kegerris and Mr. Moore successfully grow the Rohnert Park franchise for the next five years.
In 1973, John Gilbert, the San Francisco Regional Manager for AB Dick purchases the Rohnert Park franchise and four years later in 1977, AB Dick products becomes a Mita copier dealer. The first model was the Mita 700D dry copier similar to the one shown here aboard Air Force One.
In 1982 Mr. Gilbert changes his company's name to Discovery Office Systems. He chose Discovery Office Systems hoping customers would 'Discover" we were different as an honest and fair company. One year later Michael Moore purchases Discovery Office Systems from John Gilbert and continues to grow the once small Rohnert Park business into the largest office equipment dealer in the North Bay area.
In 1996 Discovery Office Systems' headquarters is relocated from Rohnert Park to the North Point Business Park in Santa Rosa.
The new millennium brings about a rather significant change for Discovery Office Systems. In 2000 Kyocera Mita purchases Discovery Office Systems. Mr. Moore remains locally as the President of Discovery Office Systems, now a wholly owned Subsidiary of Kyocera Mita. Three short years later in 2003, and again in 2005, Discovery Office Systems is cited as an industry leader in customer satisfaction by JD Power and Associates. The first Northbay office equipment vendor to receive this coveted award.
In 2007 Michael Moore retires and David McReynolds is appointed General Manager of Discovery Office Systems.
